Austin Peay overtakes UCA, pull away to 9-2 win in series opener
UCA had six hits from six different players, including doubles by Jagger Schattle and Tanner Leonard

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Central Arkansas led early, but the first-place Austin Peay Governors came back to record a 9-2 victory in their ASUN series opener on Friday night at Raymond C. Hand Park.
The Bears picked up two runs in the third inning on Jagger Schattle’s double to left center after a Tanner Leonard double and a base hit by Zeb Allen.
But the high-powered APSU offense took over from there, scoring seven times in the fourth inning on six hits and two UCA errors.
The Governors (39-11) added single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to improve to 22-3 in conference play. APSU leads the Gold Division by six games over second-place Lipscomb.
The Governors finished with 10 hits, including two each by Kyler Proctor, Gus Freeman and Andres Matias. Freeman had a solo home run in the sixth inning.
UCA starter Hunter Alexander allowed six earned run in 3.2 innings while striking out two.
Jake Jones (1.1 innings) and Austin Jones (3.0) combined to allow just three hits and one earned run in the final 4.1 innings.

Gavin Alveti, a junior relief pitcher, made his debut behind the plate due to injuries at the catching position and had his first career hit and threw out an APSU runner.
Game 2 of the series is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.
